<title>Nov 20, Sleep study links obesity to short sleep in infancy</title>
    <link>http://www.baby-sleep-advice.com/baby-sleep-through-night.html#basis</link>
<description>Several sleep studies in the past have shown a link between short sleep duration and obesity in children, adolescents and adults.

Recently published research by Tikotzky et al. studied infant sleep patterns and their effect on physical growth (J. Sleep Research (2009) doi: 10.1111/j.1365-2869.2009.00772.x).

They found evidence that, as early as in the first six months, poorer sleep brings increased weight gain - relative to growing in length.

Comfortingly, they also found that even though breastfeeding is related to more fragmented sleep, it does not have this undesirable influence onset to obesity.

In any case, this is a good reminder for the importance of good sleep. The best start to help baby sleep well, is always &#39;the basics&#39; - as outlined in the link below.</description>
