Question: My 2 months old baby girl usually sleep very little during day time and has become very cranky these days especially after her vaccination at 1 and half month ... she is quiet when we keep her busy by talking with her or playing. she cries more when held by a stranger ... actually i want to know do i need to fix her feeding schedule and sleep pattern? How can i fix that??

Heidi's Answer: Hi, At this age it is not straightforward to have a regular schedule, let alone one that does not change every other day ...

Yet to keep her happy you do want her to take 2 or 3 naps per day. I suggest that you arrange three set times where you offer an opportunity for quiet time.

Even if she does not sleep each time at first, keep offering the opportunity consistently.

It is OK for now to hold and rock her to sleep, use a baby sling carrier or go for a stroller walk. Don't worry if she's not sleeping in her crib at these naps, the main point is that she can rest and possibly sleep for 1 to 1,5 hour.

Do this for a couple of weeks, but within a few days you will notice that she becomes better-rested and less cranky.

See the sleep schedule pages for more on arranging her days.

Good luck,
Heidi
